Opera in the medieval castle - the Extraordinary Opera Experience
Come and enjoy the Opera Festival in Savonlinna in the heart of Europe´s biggest lake area. Summer fills this small town with culture and music. The Unique Opera Festival takes place at Olavinlinna Castle, surrounded by a swirling channel. The main stage, framed by medieval wall, is in the courtyard of one of the proudest castles of Finland. World class singers, carefully crafted performances and the ancient walls create an atmosphere that no opera enthusiast should miss.
1st day Helsinki – Mikkeli – Kerimäki ca.352 km
Arrival at Helsinki airport. The bus is already waiting for you. You leave the Finnish capital and drive over Mikkeli, the city in the heart of Finland´s largest Lake District between the Saimaa and Puulajärvi systems. This small city served as the headquarters of the Finnish defence forces during the Second World War. The bus takes you further over Savonlinna to Kerimäki.
Savonlinna´s main attraction is the Olavinlinna castle, the best preserved fortress in the Nordic countries. The large courtyard of the castle is the venue for the famous Savonlinna Opera festival taking place each summer in July.

2nd day Kerimäki – Savonlinna – Punkaharju – Kerimäki
After breakfast the bus takes you to Savonlinna (23 km). In Savonlinna you go on board a small ship and take a cruise on the beautiful lake. After a while you will reach Punkaharju ridge one of the best-known natural sights in Finland. It is a 7-km-long chain of ridges, formed during the Ice Age, which separates two lakes from each other. The narrow ridge is surrounded on both sides by magnificent lake scenery. Punkaharju also hosts Lusto, a national museum and science centre of international importance focusing on Finnish forest culture. After visit at Lusto, drive with bus back to hotel.
Bus transfer to Savonlinna for Pre-Opera-Dinner in a lovely summer restaurant near the castle.
After the dinner short walk to the castle for opera.

3th day Kerimäki – Savonlinna – Lappeenranta – Porvoo – Helsinki 415 km
Breakfast at your hotel. In Kerimäki you can astonish the world´s largest wooden church. In 1847 - when fewer than 1,000 souls lived here this church with 3,300 seats was built in the village. Short drive to Savonlinna and visit the Olavinlinna castle (guided tour).
Then you say good bye to Savonlinna and the bus takes you via Lappeenranta , a friendly summer town. Enjoy the sunny relaxing atmosphere; visit the old part of town - the fortress- which is full of colourful history. Many sights are located here, including Finland´s oldest Orthodox Church, the South Karelian museum, the Cavalry Museum, and fortified walls dating from the 18th century. The fortress houses two potteries and other handicrafts workshops, which are open all year. Thanks to the 50 km long Saimaa Canal which joins Lake Saimaa to the Gulf of Finland, Lappeenranta has developed into Finland´s biggest inland port.
Via Porvoo, Finland’s second oldest city, situated at the mouth of the River Porvoo, you arrive in Helsinki. Accommodation in Hotel Crowne Plaza (5*).
Breakfast at your hotel. Free time for exploring Helsinki. In the early afternoon star for a sightseeing tour in Helsinki featuring the most important sights of Helsinki. The tour ends at Helsinki airport.
