SNOWMOBILES, REINDEERS &HUSKIES AT SANTA’S HOME TOWN
Duration 4 days/3 nights
Rovaniemi, the capital of Lapland and the city of Winter. A real arctic dream of very sporty visitor. Rovaniemi is also a town of snowmobiles, reindeer and Santa Claus. Here you can witness as many as 150 snowmobiles setting off for a safari at the same time and return home with a reindeer driving licence in their pocket. During your active days on the Arctic Circle you will experience the Lappish nature from many different perspectives: from a snowmobile and from a sledge pulled by reindeer or husky dogs!
DAY 1 Sunday
Arrival to the Rovaniemi airport. Bus transfer to your hotel Cumulus (3*) in the city centre.
Dinner and accommodation.
DAY 2 Monday
After breakfast your winter adventure begins. Your guide picks you up from the hotel and takes you to the safari club where you slip into a thermo outfit, boots, scarf, gloves and helmet.
The safari begins with a brisk ride on snowmobiles to a nearby reindeer farm, where you will be initiated into the Lapp culture by a native family, see traditional Lapp housing and learn more about reindeer husbandry. In a traditional Lappish kota tent, a ceremony of crossing the Arctic Circle takes place.
In case you don´t have a valid reindeer driving licence, this is your chance to get one. First a professional reindeer herder demonstrates how to handle this beast in front of your sledge. Then you have to go on your own. You will soon find the animal sympathetic - although some self-willed. In one of the reindeer farm´s cottages you will enjoy lunch.
DAY 3 Tuesday
Today’s program includes driving with snowmobiles through the snowy landscape to a husky farm where you familiarise yourself with many friendly husky dogs, their daily life and training. You will enjoy a ride on a sled pulled by a team of eagerly running dogs. After a ride enjoy a lunch before returning back to Rovaniemi.
Time for free disposal. Overnight.
DAY 4 Wednesday
Before you leave the home town of Santa you have to visit him at the Santa Claus Village. After having said Hallo to Santa and his you helpers you have time for a walk through the Santa Claus Village, or for sending some postcards to home from Santa´s own post office and for some shopping in the charming shopping gallery.
Then your coach brings you to the airport for your flight to home.
